I'm a web developer based out of Philadelphia, PA.
And this is my website :)
Hello! My name is Kyle Sandhage and I am a web developer. I really enjoy working up and down the stack: designing/wireframing pages; fleshing out the front-end with custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; digging deep into the back end to create features and functionality... I love it all! I had my first introduction to coding while pursuing my bachelor's degree in Journalism at the University of Georgia.
Alongside my major courses, I was accepted into the New Media Institute (within the Grady College of Journalism) where I earned the New Media Certificate -- an achievement that showed that I knew my way around the front-end. After obtaining my degree, I spent a few years trying on a couple different hats (barista, baker, market intelligence consultant, freelance writer, so on and so forth) before coming back to coding. It was something that I had enjoyed from the beginning and finally decided to seriously pursue as a career. I've since enrolled in courses through Thinkful to sharpen my development skills.
I love coding. Building things, problem solving... it's like a continuously changing puzzle! A puzzle I perpetually love to solve.
I got into photography a few years ago and dove head-first into this hobby with a passion: wandering city streets at night, exploring abandoned buildings, hiking -- all to find my next subject.
What started as an alternative way to commute quickly became a beloved pass-time. I've dipped my toe into touring (having cycled from Atlanta, GA, to Anniston, AL, and back) and am itching to plot my next bike adventure!
As long as I can remember reading and writing have been the most integral activities by which I've defined myself. Journals, short-stories, poems, zines... the final product does not matter to me. I just love the process.
Speaking more specifically than writing, I love poetry. I spent time as the managing poetry editor at Mandala Literary journal at UGA and often find myself socializing through local poetry groups and scenes (wherever I may be).
Two words: Dance Trapeze. Seriously, this must be one of the most fun physical activities I have had the chance to practice. If you are lucky enough to live near a studio, try it out!
I feel priveleged to have grown up with parents who love to travel and had the means to bring us kids along; there is no question that I inherited this desire from them. My favorite trip so far has been to Tanzania.
Perfecting personal recipes or figuring out how to combine the last ingredients in the fridge and pantry: cooking is one of my favorite ways to destress. Also, I make a damn fine vegetarian chili.
